What Gets Preserved

Text — all paragraphs of body copy
Headings — H1 through H6 rendered with appropriate sizes and weight
Bold and italic — inline text formatting
Lists — bullet and numbered lists
Paragraph structure — line breaks and spacing

What Doesn't Get Preserved

Images — inline images and graphics are not included
Tables — converted to plain paragraphs, not grid layouts
Colors and highlighting — all text renders in black
Fonts — output uses a standard PDF font (Helvetica)
Headers and footers — Word's page headers/footers are ignored
Hyperlinks — rendered as plain text, not clickable
Footnotes and comments — not extracted
Complex layout — columns and text boxes flatten to simple paragraphs

.docx — the modern Word format (Office 2007 and newer) ✓ Supported
.doc — the legacy Word format (Office 97–2003) ✗ Not supported. Re-save as .docx in Word first.
.rtf — Rich Text Format ✗ Not supported.
.odt — OpenDocument Text ✗ Not supported.

Options Explained

Page Size — Letter (US default), A4 (international), Legal, A3, or A5.
Orientation — Portrait (tall) or Landscape (wide).
Base Font Size — the body text size in points. Headings scale up from here.
Preserve bold & italic — keeps inline text styling.
Preserve headings — renders H1–H6 in progressively larger, bolder text.
Preserve lists — renders bullet and numbered lists with hanging indents.
